If you use the graphical desktop, it‘s possible to manage the clients desktop remotely from a other system via the Ubuntu VNC implementation vino and vinagre.

Enable the VNC server on a system

At the GNOME desktop,  open „“System“ / „Preferences“ / „Remote Desktop“

In the selection bar „General“ select „Allow other users to view your desktop“, deselect „Ask you for confirmation“,
and enable „Require the user to enter this password“ and enter a password which is required to connect to the
 VNC session on this system

I strongly recommend, to enable the screen lock by selecting the „Advanced“ bar and, if possible, enable the
option „Require encryption and „Lock screen on disconnect“. If you are using RealVNC, or get any problems with
the connection from a non vino VNC client, please try to disable the encryption.

Connect to the VNC system with a VNC client

Select „Applications“ / „Internet“ / „Remote Desktop Viewer“ on the GNOME desktop to start the VNC client

Select „Connect“ and enter the hostname or IP address of the system you would like to connect.

If you have setup a password on the remove system, you will now prompted for the password

Now you see the remote system within the small window on the VNC client
