Dotsch/UX is also installable on a Hard disk. This is required, if you would like to setup a server for diskless clients or want a traditional hard disk installation.
The installation on the hard disk requires 2,5 GB on the hard disk. 4 GB is recommended for a hard disk installation without diskless clients.
For the main diskless server installation are about 1,5...1,7 GB fore each architecture required. And about 1,5...1,7 GB for each diskless client plus the size you would need for BOINC.
If you would be prompted for a password for the User „boinc“, this would results from the usage of the sudo tool, which requires the user password for authentication to issue commands as root. The password for the User boinc is boinc. Please change the boinc user password after the installation is finished.
2.2.1 The installation on a separate Linux partition
• Burn the downloaded .iso image to a CD and boot your computer from this CD.
• After the OS has loaded and the desktop is available, start the Hard disk installation by click on the „Install to the
Hard disk (1. Step)“ icon on Applications Menu under „Dotsch/UX Hard disk Tools“. This is the usual way to
install Ubuntu on your Desktop.
• Enter the default password (boinc) for the user boinc
• Choose your language
• Choose your time zone
• Choose your Keyboard layout
• Add a personal user for you. The default user boinc would not been overwritten
• If everything is OK, press install. - It‘s the last change to quit
• The installation process would require about 10 to 30 minutes...
• If everything completed successfully, reboot the system.
• After the OS has loaded and the desktop is available, start the Dotsch/UX Setup by click on the „Setup Dotsch/UX
on the installed Hard disk (2. Step)“ icon on Applications Menu under „Dotsch/UX Hard disk Tools“
• The script would ask you, if the text console should be enabled by default, ask you for the network preferences
and switch to the text console.
If you would like to configure the network configuration manually, please answer yes to the configure network
question, a graphical interface (nm-connection-editor).

Your Dotsch/UX hard disk system is now setup, and ready to use. After the reboot the system will start the BOINC client automatically with enabled GUI RPC mechanisms, with the default password ‚boinc“ to connect remotely to the system via a other BOINC manager.
