2.4.2 Updating the BOINC client

2.4.2.1 Manual upgrade

Per default the Dotsch/UX 1.0 distribution is bundled with the BOINC client 6.2.15, Dotsch/UX 1.1 is bundled with the BOINC client 6.4.5. If you install Dotsch/UX 1.1 from a ISO image the BOINC client  6.4.5. is installed per default. If you upgrade from Dotsch/UX 1.0 to 1.1, you need manualy upgrade the BOINC client.

The BOINC client would be started as daemon at boot time and would be monitored by this daemon and kept alive.

If you would like to up- or downgrade to a other version like the installed one, you need to do following steps :

• Open a new terminal window

• Stop the BOINC client and disable the daemon and monitor with : „sudo /etc/init.d/boinc stop“

• Copy the new (downloaded) BOINC client install archive to /home/boinc

• Unpack and install the BOINC client : „sh ./boinc_6.4.5_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh“ -> change 6.4.5 in the filename
into the filename of your downloaded file.

• Start the BOINC client and enable the daemon and monitor with : „sudo /etc/init.d/boinc stop“

A example of the upgrade from 6.2.15 to 6.4.5. The boinc client was downloaded via the browser from he offical BOINC site (boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php) and saved on the desktop.
